Frequently asked questions
-
Art therapy sessions last for 50 minutes.
-
During our first session, we will talk about your needs and decide together when and how often therapy sessions would be most beneficial for you.
While art therapy sessions typically occur at the same time and day each week, we will take your specific needs into account and create a plan that works best for you.
-
Before you decide to book one or more sessions, we can have a chat about you or your loved one’s needs and hopes for art therapy, and how we might work together. I then offer a free 30-minute taster session.
This session gives you the opportunity to see if I’m the right fit for you. There’s no pressure to make a decision right away — you can take your time to decide.
-
There is no pressure to be good at art! With art therapy, the value of the art-making isn’t about how “good” the artwork is, but about the process of making art and about the emotions you experience when you’re creating artwork with your therapist.
-
Each person is unique, and your therapy sessions will be tailored to your individual needs. Some people create art in every session, while others do so less often or only occasionally.
We will collaborate to find what works best for you. If you would rather talk for some of your sessions, that is fine.
-
Any artwork you create during sessions belongs entirely to you. You're welcome to take it home, keep it in the therapy space, or even dispose of it at any time—whatever feels right for you.
If we’re working together in person, I provide folders and storage boxes where your artwork can be safely kept between sessions, should you choose to leave it with me.
-
Everything you share during Art Therapy sessions—including any artwork you create—is treated with the same level of confidentiality as any other personal information. Your privacy is respected and protected at all times.
There are, however, a few legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality (for example, if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others). If we decide to work together, we’ll go through these in more detail during our initial contracting session so you know exactly what to expect.
-
I understand that starting a therapeutic journey can feel overwhelming. My approach focuses on supporting you without relying on quick fixes or unrealistic expectations. I believe in creating a space for collaboration, reflection, creativity, and learning.
It’s about providing a safe environment where you can explore your needs, share your thoughts, and empower yourself to make positive changes in your life.
-
Art therapy may not be the right fit for everyone, and that’s ok! If it doesn't feel like the right approach for you, we can explore other support options that may better suit your needs.

"It's helpful talk to someone as it helps me to understand myself and to know that I'm not the only person experiencing this; that others experience the same thing."
